What Should I Wear?

  • Bring a few outfits of different styles.  A good variety might be: a dressy outfit, a casual one, and something that represents your school, sport, interests, or unique style.

  • Layers are great because you can get a lot of variety without needing to change.  Things like jackets, scarves, and shawls are also great for unique poses.

  • Patterns, solids and stripes are all fine.  Just remember to think about your surroundings.  If we’re going into the woods in summer, green is not the best choice.  If we’re going to a flower garden, avoid busy prints.  You want to stand out from your surroundings, not match them.  When in doubt, bring an extra outfit and we can discuss what will look best.

  • Textures look great in photographs.  Tweed, crochet, knit, ruffles, ribbons, lace, etc.

  • Accessorize!  Not only do accessories make your photos more uniquely you, but they also add a lot of visual interest.  Hats, jewelry, scarves, hair accessories, colorful socks, and belts are just a few ideas.

Will My Shoes Be In The Photos?

  • Yes.  Don’t forget about the shoes when planning what to wear.  Find shoes that really compliment the outfit.  If you do forget, no sweat; we will work around it.

  • If your location will involve a lot of walking around, make sure you wear shoes that are comfortable to walk in.  If you want to be wearing high heels in your photos, bring some slip on shoes also so that you can swap back and forth.

What Else Should I Bring

  • Bring any props that represent you, like awards (academic or sports), sporting equipment and/or uniforms, hobbies, pets, etc.

  • The more variety you put into your clothes, accessories, and props, the more variety you will have in your photos and they more "you" they will be.

How Do I Select A Location?

  • If you have a special place in mind, let me know.  Otherwise, I can help you choose one based on your style and interests.

  • Think about a location that represents you: a horse farm, downtown, an old family barn, etc.  We will discuss where you want to go when you book.  If you need ideas, I can offer some as well.

  • Consider your location when selecting your outfits.  A timeless, rustic look is great for photos at a farm. Bright colors are great for urban settings.  Or go for a retro look if we’re going somewhere classic.  Don't feel restricted though.  Juxtaposition can be interesting too.

Can I Bring Someone With Me?

  • Absolutely! Parents, siblings & friends are welcome to watch.  They’re also welcome to pop in a few photos as well.

  • If you'd be more comfortable bringing someone along to help you relax or make you laugh, then definitely do that.  The best pictures come when you’re relaxed and having fun.  You just need to be yourself. Having a playful attitude will give your photos a variety of expressions and will really make them shine!

  • Bringing someone with you is also beneficial if you need help changing clothes or hairstyles.  If you do plan on changing hair or makeup styles, think about what will be the easiest to start with and which outfit goes with that so we can start there.
